What is Menopause

The end of a woman’s menstrual cycles is known as menopause. Menopause is a natural change that occurs commonly between the ages of 45 and 55 for women. Early menopause can happen before the age of 45, and premature menopause can happen before the age of 40 if the woman’s ovaries stop producing eggs spontaneously, or because of forced spontaneous menopause.

Three phases of Menopause

Peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause are the three phases of menopause.

• The period preceding up to menopause is known as peri-menopause. It refers to a period in which hormone levels begin to drop and menstrual cycles become inconsistent and irregular. Women may begin to experience menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes or vaginal dryness.
• When a woman ceases generating the hormones that trigger their monthly period and have not had one for 12 months, she has reached menopause. You enter postmenopause once this happens.
• The period following menopause is known as postmenopause. A woman will be in post-menopause for the rest of her life after this happens. Certain health issues, such as osteoporosis and heart disease, are more common among post-menopausal women
