Respiratory Health
There are a variety of respiratory tract conditions that Tibb products can assist in managing. These are either upper or lower respiratory tract conditions.
Upper respiratory tract conditions:
The Common Cold is defined as a common infection in which the mucous membranes of the nose and throat become inflamed. The condition usually runs its course in a few days.
Influenza (flu) is defined as a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory passages. Complete recovery can take weeks and secondary bacterial infections are more common than with the common cold.
Sinusitis most often occurs when an initial viral infection (common cold & flu) is often followed by a secondary bacterial infection in the sinuses. The congested mucous membranes block the opening between the nose and the sinuses preventing mucous drainage.
Lower respiratory tract conditions:
Emphysema, also called pulmonary emphysema, is defined as a condition in which the air sacs of the lungs are damaged and enlarged causing breathlessness.
Tropical Eosinophilia is an uncommon condition characterised by recurrent asthma attacks, low grade fever and respiratory difficulty due to an increase in the number of white blood cells in the lung tissue.
Bronchitis (acute) is defined as an acute inflammation of the trachea and bronchi. Bronchitis is usually due to a secondary bacterial infection that is preceded by the common cold or flu. The viruses suppress normal defence mechanisms, and this allows bacteria already present in the respiratory tract to multiply.
Asthma occurs when inflammation of the airways leads to the mucous membranes and muscle layers of the airways becoming thickened and the mucous glands enlarge, thereby reducing airflow in the lower respiratory tract.
